This 'Great Glen' is famous for its series of lochs which cuts across Scotland from Inverness in the northeast to Fort William in the southwest. Loch Ness is situated in the glen is linked to the Caledonian Canal where small vessels coming from the North Sea do not have to risk the stormy and wild north coast of Scotland waters. Ben Nevis at 4.406ft is the highest mountain in the British Isles.
