Great Canfield was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and has about 8 miles of road linking the four Ends which comprise Bacon End, Church End, Helman’s Cross and Hope End.
An attractive village on the River Roding, with a fine Norman parish church a grade I Listed building and dates back to the 12th century. It has a beautiful east wall mural of Mary and Child believed to have been completed in 1250.
