A picturesque 12th century village Church of St Mary the Virgin with a tower dating from about 1200. Other features, including the nave and chancel, were built in the 13th century. Inside the church are many interesting features, among them the ancient font and the pews with carved 'poppy heads'.
St Mary's has been used as a place of worship by the Spencer family since 1508, and their attendance is remembered in the magnificent Spencer Chapel.
On the chancel floor is the tomb on Lawrence Washington, ancestor of George Washington.
