URPoint Details
St Mary’s Church, (Churches Conservation Trust). Limited opening.
The church St Mary's is a charming sight from the lane nearby, set on a small hill with fields around. It was modestly built of dark ironstone early in the 14th century and the tower, now with a pyramidal roof surmounted by a thin shaft topped by a large cross, was added early in the 15th. Inside it is atmospheric, unspoiled and delightful; the nave and chancel, the south door, the screen, the benches and the king post roof have all survived from the 14th century. The pulpit, altar rails and a fine monument with brass to Benjamin Pigott, his three wives and fourteen children, are from the 17th century.
