GNOSALL (pronounced ‘Nozall’ and comes from the Old English meaning a nook of land)
The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book, in which it was named Geneshale and having a population of 12 households
The heart of the village lies a quarter of a mile east of the Shropshire Union Canal, with the former village lock-up built in 1830.
The fine 13th century Church of St Laurence is an impressive cruciform building dating back to Norman time and stands over the site of an earlier Saxon church. It has an impressive tower built in the 15th century.
