Built in 1579, this beautiful Elizabethan flint country house is the home of Viscount Hampden, and is set below the ancient hill fort of Mount Caburn. Built around an elegant flowered courtyard, this magnificent manor house will reward you with pictures, furniture, embroidery, silver and documents collected by one of the family who has lived here since it was built. Inside the house, there is an exhibition of family costumes and two exhibitions commemorate the lives of two of its owners, Colonel Morley, hero of the Civil War in Sussex and Henry Brand, Speaker of the House of Commons 1872-1884. The grounds contain some of the finest views in Sussex.
