Magnificent Norman Abbey and Chapter House where William the Conqueror ordered the Domesday Survey in 1085.
Gloucester is one of only four Cathedrals in the country to have witnessed a royal burial (Edward II) and a coronation (Henry lisle). This Benedictine abbey church has the earliest perpendicular work & fan vaulting. The Great East window commemorates the Battle of Crick in 1346.
The building was started in 1089 and contains one of only five crypts dating from before 1100.
