URPoint Details
A hamlet at the head of Loch Shiel, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his father’s standard on August 19, 1745.
One of the most beautiful and romantic spots in the Western Highlands through which runs the ‘Road to the Isles’, passing Loch Shiel on its way to Morar and Mallaig.
At the head of the loch, in its superb mountain setting where the little River Finnan flows down from Glen Finnan into the loch stands the prominent statue of Prince Charles Edward.
West from Glenfinnan the road follows a valley between the rugged rock strewn hills with Beinn Odhar Mhor standing at 2,853ft and to the south is Fraoch Bheinn at 2,489ft to the north.
