One of the loveliest of all the Scottish glens and extends fro nearly ten miles from Glen Cluanie to the head of Loch Duich at Shiel Bridge.
High mountains overhang the glen on both sides. On the east side overlooking Loch Duich are the famous Five Sisters of Kintail with Scour Ouran rising to 3,505ft from the roadside.
To the west is a line of hills terminating at The Saddle at 3,317ft with its sharp-pointed outlier of Faochag at 3,010ft.
In the heart of the glen at Bridge of Shiel spanning the River Shiel is the site of a battle with Spanish troops who landed here from ships in Loch Duich during a Jacobite rising in 1719 Sgurr nan Spainteach one of the Five Sisters rises to 3,129ft.
