Lying on the River Isla in the heart of Glen Isla is one of the long and picturesque glens of Angus.
The road up the glen continues northwards to the ruins of Forter Castle burnt in 1640. The road (not a great surface) climbs still northwards and eventually reaches at 2,917ft and Glas Maol at 3,502ft.
The Monega Pass was a formerly a drove road for cattle and reaches up to 3,318ft and said to be the highest right-of-way in Scotland.
By means of a path the Cairnwell Pass reaches to the Aberdeenshire and Perthshire border.
