Tor Hill is associated with King Arthur and is claimed to be the legendary Avalon.
Jospeh of Armitea who gave his tomb to Christ is said to have come to Glastonbury to convert the British. The legend states that he placed the Holy Grail – the cup used for the Last Supper beneath a spring on Tor Hill. He is said to have built a chapel and in about 700 an abbey was founded here, a few remains are all that is left after the Dissolotion of the monasteries by Henry Viii in 1539.
