Disabled parking in small car park 10m from gate disabled visitors may be set down outside the priory. Access to Priory and grounds via impacted gravel paths to ticket office and most of site some smooth grassed areas there are alternative routes to slopes and steps assistance recommended for wheelchair users in winter and wet weather benches available around the site. Small herb garden stone carvings to touch (note) there are many hazardous low walls.
Founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus, an ancestor of Scotland's Robert the Bruce. The magnificent 13th century east end of this Augustinian priory stands like a triumphal arch in the landscape. The remains also include a 12th century gatehouse, an octagonal dovecote and the east end of an early 14th century church.
