George Frederic Watts OM born 23 February 1817 was a popular English Victorian painter and sculptor.
His most famous work, the 1902 large bronze statue Physical Energy, depicts a naked man on horseback shielding his eyes from the sun as he looks ahead of him.
Watts's wife Mary had designed the nearby earlier Watts Mortuary Chapel, which he paid for and also painted a version of The All-Pervading for the altar only three months before he died on 1 July 1904 at Compton in Surrey.
