URPoint Details
At the centre of this very attractive stone village, once surrounded by woodland, lies the cross, built in 1294 as a memorial to Edward I\'s beloved Queen Eleanor.
He built a cross at each of the resting places of her funeral procession on the journey from Harby in Nottinghamshire to London.
Only three crosses survive, two in Northamptonshire.
The bridge is older than the cross by 40 years and travellers today may cross the River Ise just as Queen Eleanor\'s cortege crossed 700 years ago.
This shallow ford, in its picturesque setting, is now crowded with ducks.
This is a village well worth exploring on foot, there are public houses and a tearoom for refreshments.
