Ganton Golf Club

Founded 1891, this is an outstanding example of an inland 'seaside' 18 hole links course, possessing perhaps the finest natural turf in England. It was the home course of the legendary Harry Vardon, six times winner of the Open Championship. Although 14km from the sea, the greenkeepers continue to find sea shells in the sandy subsoil confirming that the Derwent Valley was at one time under the ocean.
