Gainsborough Model Railway

23 Florence Terrace, Gainsborough DN21 1BE, England

URPoint Details

Refreshments available. Unfortunately not all of the building is accessible for those with disabilities.

1996 was the Golden Jubilee of this extensive 'O' model railway often described as the largest of its kind in the country, and is housed in an old Victorian school building. Whether it is your first visit, or you are drawn, as many visitors are, to return to the railway year after year, there is so much to capture your interest, with some 12000 feet of main line track, over 150 pieces of point-work, 10 passenger stations, 2 large freight yards, 5 motive power depots, roughly 400 items of rolling stock and over 100 locomotives, including such names as 4472 "Flying Scotsman" and 60022 "Mallard".

Based on the East Coast main line from Kings Cross to Leeds, ones first view of the line is the famous twin-arched roof of the southern terminus, Kings Cross, with its eccentric numbering (no platforms 3 or 9), busy handling many expresses, including the famous "Yorkshire Pullman" and "West Riding Limited", lesser long distance expresses, and the suburban traffic. The notorious Gas Works Tunnel is easily recognisable. Ferme Park Goods Yard, adjacent, with its numerous freight and car
