The 'Meres' is a bird sanctuary managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
The castle overlooks the meres and there is a circular walk. In winter when the lake is iced over, skaters come from miles around and it's a very pretty sight to watch them skate with the aid of car headlights.
