Framlingham Castle, (EH)

No dogs allowed. Disabled parking 100m from entrance on gravel path and drive parking nearer the entrance can be arranged please inquire at admission point; wheelchair users may require assistance.
Access to Castle all ground floor areas within castle walls accessible via impacted gravel surfaces; benches provided; steep spiral stairs to upper floors.
Grounds: wheelchair access not possible outside curtain walls. Toilets, not suitable for wheelchair users steps. Shop has easy access.
Exhibition accessible (within Poorhouse).
Superb 12th century castle which, from the outside, looks almost the same as when it was built. From the continuous curtain wall, linking 13 towers, there are excellent views over Framlingham and the charming reed-fringed mere. At different times, the castle has been a fortress, an Elizabethan prison, a poor house and a school. The many alterations over the years have led to a pleasing mixture of historical styles.
