In the main street, limestone cottages stand solid and four-squared with heavy slate roofs.
At the east end is a house with a 15th century gateway and Gothic arch, believed to be part of a hostel built in the 15th century by Edward IV when he was resident at the castle.
Richard III was born at Fotheringhay Castle in 1452.
