Parking exhibition. Disabled parking 60m from entrance with uneven surface at far end disabled visitors may be set down within the fort please phone in advance. Fort has one step up to ticket point cobblestone entrance area and gravel parade ground wheelchair access to most parts of the fort. Access to the ramparts is via a grassed slope which may be hazardous to ambulant disabled visitors in wet weather. Grounds are mostly accessible, but on mainly gravel surfaces which are deep in places other paths can be slippery when wet. Easy access to exhibition. Toilets across parade ground up one step, and through heavy double doors.

This was a new type of fort, built in the 19th century to protect Portsmouth with formidable fire-power. Largely unaltered, the parade ground, gun ramps and moated keep can all be viewed. An exhibition illustrates the history of Portsmouth's defences.
