Open April to end October, daily 10am-6pm. Small admission charge to both priory and car park. Tearoom and toilets in Finchdale Abbey farmhouse, outside entrance; not suitable for wheelchairs.
Disabled parking 75m from entrance, via sloping roadway; rough grass and loose surface in car park; disabled visitors may be set down at the entrance. Access to priory and grounds: ramped entrance, wide enough for some wheelchairs; alternative wider gate at 10m; most parts of the church and cloister buildings are negotiable with care and assistance via ramped and stepped loose dolomite pathways or ramped smooth grass; easy steps for ambulant disabled visitors to refectory and kitchen. Sound of river and birds nearby; (note) there are steps and wall footings throughout the site.
These beautiful 13th century priory remains are located beside the curving River Wear.
