URPoint Details
South from St Ives across the water meadows of the Great Ouse, Fenstanton is a large and still growing village on the Cambridge Road.
Although much extended by much modern housing, Fenstanton retains buildings of the Georgian period and on one of its two greens is the ancient village 'lock-up', a 17th century structure complete with a roof-top clock. Fenstanton has a quite sizeable school and village hall.
The town's great claim to fame is that Capability Brown the great landscape gardener and architect lived here for many years. He and his wife and son are buried at the medieval church noted for its fine chancel.
