No dogs allowed; picnics in grounds welcome. Disabled parking 100m from entrance loose gravel and slight slope to entrance disabled visitors may be set down on the top lawn by prior arrangement. Access to castle ruins are negotiable with car; Chapel accessible through garden; difficult spiral staircase to upper floor of museum; benches and seats provided. The Custodian is only too happy to describe non-accessible parts of the castle with visitors. Grounds mostly accessible to ambulant disabled visitors on impacted gravel, tarmac and earth paths and fairly smooth grass; some cobbled areas; wheelchair access is confined to top lawns. Stone carvings on tombs in chapel may be touched. Hazardous spiral staircase in museum crypt is dark and small, not accessible to wheelchair users. Shop access via one stop snacks available. Extensive ruins of a 14th century castle with a splendid chapel containing wall paintings, stained glass and the fine tomb of Sir Thomas Hungerford, builder of the castle.
