URPoint Details
A busy fishing town on the Eye Water where it flows into the sea between Hare Point and Nest ends and a partly sandy beach
There are cobbled streets, narrow pends or archways leading to small courtyards and ‘wynds’ narrow passageways.
The town suffered one of the worst fishing disasters in October 1881, when 129 men almost the entire male population lost their lives in a storm.
To the southwest is the 17th century Linthill House with crow-stepped gables once the home of the Humes and said to have been the site of a gruesome tragedy in the 18th century. Linthill House is now a self-catering house
