Standing near the Cromarty Firth where the Allt Grand River flows into the Firth. The river known farther west as Glass emerges from Loch Glass northwest of the foothills of Ben Wyvis that rises to 3,429ft. To the north of Loch Glass is the smaller Loch Morie below Meall More at 2,419ft. Away to the southwest rises Beinn Tharsuinn at 2,270ft. Two and a half miles southwest of Evanton is the Clan Munro seat of Foulis Castle where the original structure was burnt in the mid-18th century.
The Aultnamain Inn stands on the fine moorland road linking Evanton to Bonar Bridge. The Inn was a former resting place for drovers on their southward journey.
