A picturesque village different from most Northumbrian hamlets, it has an air of prosperity and has retained neat little thatched roofs that were traditional in the area 200 years ago.
At the end of the village’s only street are the remains of a 14th century castle, ruined by the Scots before their defeat at the Battle of Flodden in 1513.
