The High Street and the old village green with its old houses and parish church of St George dating from the 16th century make up this busy town.
A 15th century gateway, known as Wolsey’s Tower, once occupied by Cardinal Wolsey, stands in the grounds of Esher Place near the River Mole.
Claremont house was built by Vanbrugh in 1708 and later rebuilt.
The old parish church dating from 1560 is interesting with its three-decker pulpit and a remarkable double-chambered pew.
A tall, circular milestone, known as the ‘White Lady’, stands on the London Road to the northeast.
