URPoint Details
The name given to the Roman road from London to Lincoln (Lindum Colonia), and the Humber Estuary by way of Royston and Huntingdon.
Parts of the A10 and A14 between Buntingford and Huntingdon, A1 south of Grantham and A15, to the north of Lincoln on the ridge known as ‘The Cliff’, follow the original Roman route.
The name Ermine Street is also given to another road, connecting Silchester (Calleva Atrebatum), with Gloucester (Colonia Glevum), keeping to the east of Swindon, and after crossing the Fosse Way at Cirencester, descending the steep Birdlip Hill to the Severn Vale at Gloucester.
