Eltham Lodge dates from 1663 and built by Hugh May, Well Hall is moated and dates from 1568.

In the churchyard of the restored church lies Thomas Doggett, the Irish comedian who died in 1721 and founded the well known Thames waterman’s race for Doggett’s Coat and Badge to commemorate the accession of George I in 1714.
The race takes place on the river every summer.
