Dame Alicia Lisle of Moyles Court lies in the churchyard and was one of the victims of the infamous Judge Jeffreys’ Bloody Assizes. Aged in her 70s, she was beheaded for harbouring rebels after the Battle of Sedgemoor. The conviction was overturned four years later by her ever persistent two daughters.
