Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell nee Stevenson was born 29 September 1810 in Chelsea and often referred to simply as Mrs Gaskell.
She was a prolific British novelist and short story writer during the Victorian era, including Cranford in 1853 and Wives and Daughters: an everyday story.
Elizabeth Gaskell went to school in Barford and Stratford. Her novel Cranford features her home town of Knutsford.
