Situated on the shore of Loch Scavaig with Ben Meabost rising to 1,128ft and with fine views of the Coolins.
A path goes north along the lochside to Camasunary from which Loch na Creitheach under the fine peak of Blaven which rises to 3,042ft. The path then turns west towards the rocky slopes of Sgurr na Stri at 1,623ft and fords a stream before reaching the notorious 'Bad Step' which requires some care.
The island of Soay lies in Outer Loch Scavaig and to the southwest is the lofty mountain of the island of Rum.
To the south of Elgol is Strathaird Point and northeast is the strange Spar Cave with its stalagmites.
