URPoint Details
Eggington meaning ‘oaks on a hill’ has always been a small village and can trace its beginnings back to pre-historic times. From Roman and medieval buildings on Haydon Hill to thatched cottages with wattle and daub walls and oak beams, later cottages were built with local red bricks.
Brickworks opened here in 1844 and clay was worked in the village, fired in the kilns and the yellow gault bricks were used to build larger homes and the rectory.
Eggington House is of the delightful Queen Anne style, situated at the top of the village road.
