URPoint Details
An ancient stone marks the centre of the village, with the road running to the south, King Edward’s Way, a reminder that the village takes its name from Queen Edith, wide of Edward the Confessor.
Rutland Water, the largest man-made lake in Britain sits alongside the village with its slate-and-thatched cottages.
The Church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the 12th century, has fine Norman carving, a one-handed clock beneath the graceful tower built 200 years later.
