URPoint Details
Who could ever have enough of Edinburgh and the hills, beaches, castle and golf courses on the Lothian countryside around it? With a city skyline every bit as spectacular as the postcards suggest, Scotland's capital is simply outstanding.
Its castle is one of the most famous symbols of Scotland. Though there is much to see here it is only one of a whole range of historic attractions stretching down the Royal Mile, the heart of the Old Town of Edinburgh. Between the castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are museums such as Huntly House or the unique Museum of Childhood, historic properties such as John Knox House or Gladstone's Land and attractions such as the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre.
The fine Georgian streets of Edinburgh's New Town, with their cobbles and grand facades, add much to the city ambience. The period settings of the National Trust for Scotland's Georgian House in Charlotte Square re-create life the New Town in the time of its first occupants. Only a little further afield, the city's Royal Botanic Garden feature the largest rhododendron collection in the world, and many other horticultural delights besides- worth a visit at any season.
