Eccup reservoir is in Alwoodley, a suburb of Leeds.  It was first constructed in 1843, and later expanded. The open water area is 91 hectares making it largest area of water in West Yorkshire.

The reservoir and the surrounding woodlands are both Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The reservoir is now home to a growing population of red kites. There's a large series of 22 geocaches around Eccup Reservoir.
