URPoint Details
Has had many prominent literary and religious visitors, several of whose personal belongings are still kept in the village. It is said that under an old elm tree opposite the church both John Bunyan and John Wesley preached. The parish has been associated with the Maudit, Yelverton and Compton families among others, since 1131.
