Eastleach Martin - Church of St Michael & St Martin
Locombe Hill, Eastleach Martin GL7 3NN, England
URPoint Details
The Church of St Michael & St Martin, (Churches Conservation Trust) is most charmingly set in a sloping churchyard by the Leach, the clear stream that separates it from its Eastleach Turville sister only 200 yards away.
GradeĀ IĀ listed building
It is early Norman in origin but much rebuilt in the 13th century. From then dates the north transept, with its three very beautiful decorated windows - the tracery, the mouldings and the little carved heads where they stop are of particularly high quality for so remote a building. Inside is attractive woodwork of various periods and a Perpendicular font.
John Keble, later one of the founders of the Oxford Movement, was a curate here in 1815.
