An important example of a medium-sized late 16th century Elizabethan manor house, built for a rich merchant Clement Sysley.
The exterior is an H-plan red-brick designed house with mullioned windows Dutch gables and a huge chimney stack staircase tower in one corner of the courtyard 3 storey porch with arch surmounted by both a hood-mould and a pediment, a curious mix of Gothic and Renaissance.
