Florence Nightingale lived at Emberley Park nearby and is buried in the parish churchyard.
In the church there are some remarkable 13th century wall paintings in particular is one with a woman carrying a spindle gazing at a knight nearby, while crowned figures watch the scene. Part of St Christopher holding a child remains and there is also a faint painting of the murder of St Thomas a Becket.
