Enjoy a day out with the sounds and smells of a 100 percent Steam Gauge Railway with passenger rides. The Victorian style engine shed where the locomotives are housed and serviced is open to visitors where they are invited to savour the atmosphere and smells of ash and hot oil amid the typical surroundings of a working steam shed. In addition, you may inspect the adjacent locomotive workshop where the locomotives are overhauled and repainted, from a special viewing platform.
Access to the engine shed is gained by either alighting from trains when operating at Cranmore West, or by using the footpath from Cranmore Station, and not a diesel engine in sight!
The original East Somerset Railway was opened in 1858 as a broad gauge line running from Witham Junction to Wells. Arrangements can be made for specially chartered goods or passenger trains for the exclusive use of photographers, with the opportunity of photographing from the lineside at any location along the way. OR enjoy an experience on the Footplate, where you can have the opportunity of driving
