URPoint Details
West of Middleton and separated from it by the east Carlton Countryside Park, this village takes it name after a 'settlement of Carls' and is a reminder of the area's Scandinavian heritage.
The village church, finished in 1788, is an excellent example of 18th century Gothic, complete with box pews and double-decker pulpit, and heraldic stained glass dating to over a century earlier. Alongside the church is the Hospital of the Blessed Jesus, a group of almshouses that were rebuilt in Jacobean style in 1868.
