Leaving Flatford Mill and the Constable walks, you enter this delightful little village by way of very narrow one way lanes and at the end is a very large imposing grey mansion once the home of Randolph Churchill, Sir Winston Churchill's son.
North of the church is The Gables, a 16th century house.
The village is a very interesting mix of houses, some dating from the 14th century. The village store also houses the Post Office, butcher and greengrocery.
The Red Lion is a typical village pub with a very friendly welcomeThe Royal Oak has a garden for children and ample parking.
To the north is Little Wenham Hall, showing some fine 13th century brickwork, some of the earliest in Britain
John Constable was born here on the 11th June 1776, and went to school in Lavenham and was friends with Jane Taylor who wrote Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.St Mary\'s Church is a very impressive and one of the most inspiring churches with an unfinished tower begun in 1525. In the churchyard is the bell-house a 16th century timber building. Inside the church are a 15th century wall painting and a memorial glass to Constable's wife Maria. His parents are buried in the churchyard.
