URPoint Details
The district's most easterly village, stands amid orchards beside the Great Ouse and at the beginning of the Old and New Bedford Rivers, two of the major drainage channels of the fens. They were started, respectively, in 1631 and 1651 and the latter is often referred to as The Hundred Foot Drain. Earith is quite modern although there are remains here of a Civil War fortified earthwork called The Bulwark close to the river bridge.
The Crown backs onto the river where boats moor and you can enjoy a pint or two. When the fen freezes over during intense frosts, the village hosts ice-skating championships.
