The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is Europe's premier aviation museum.
Duxford also has one of the finest collections of tanks, military vehicles and naval exhibits in the country.
This famous heritage site began as an airfield and training station in the First World War and also played a vital role in the Second World War, firstly as an RAF fighter station and later as an American fighter base. In the Second World War it was perhaps best known as the base for the famed Duxford Wing that took part in the Battle of Britain, spearheded by the RAF's renowned legless pilot, Douglas 'Tin Legs' Bader.
The Showscan motion theatre is a must where you can experience a ride through space or take part in a dog fight! Have a look around a Concorde. Take a wander through, or even a flight in, the Boeing B-17 bomber used in the movie Memphis Belle. There is also the opportunity to fly in several of the warbirds located at Duxford, including a two-seat Supermarine Spitfire.
In the Summer historic aircraft take to the skies, especially at weekends, and there is a series of Air Pageants every season. Occasionally you will see history made at these pageants, such as the greatest air gathering
