URPoint Details
The Leper hospital, chapel ruins, priory and 19th century church are all that is left, yet visiting here you can relate to the history of this tiny village, once a thriving town.
The continuous erosion of the cliffs and the flooding of storms has reduced one of the East Coast's busiest towns to a handful of cottages, a beach cafe and a fishermen\'s hut, a pub and a general shop.
Some of the houses have lattice windows and Elizabethan chimneys.
At the start of the 13th century, the town had grown big enough and nine churches were needed to serve the population, many of whom earned their living from the sea which eventually destroyed the town.
Greyfriars, 13th century monastic remains on the cliff top.
