A village which grew up around the fantastic castle is the seat of the Clan MacLeod who have lived there continuously for more than 700 years. A memorial cairn to the MacCrimmons the hereditary pipers to the Macleods stand 8 miles northwest at Borecraig where a piping college once stood. Dunvegan - fort of the few, is the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and has been home to the Chiefs of the Macleod Clan for over 700 years and contains many precious clan mementos.
