URPoint Details
Built by the Romans at the junction of the prehistoric Icknield Way and Watling Street.
The town was once a coaching town, and a centre for the local straw plait and hatmaking industry. There is a famous Augustinian priory founded in 1132.
Dunstable is a lovely city and very easy to find your way around in. Narrow side streets have lovely old buildings of historical interest.
If you want to get involved in a market day, this is the place. The main car park is taken over by hundreds of stalls where you can buy most anything, although parking is hard to find.
There are some of the most delightful pubs here and the thatched Norman King, Dunstable with its brick and little windows, is well worth a visit.
