The largest and most northerly great house in Scotland and is Britain's oldest continuously inhabited house with parts dating from the early 1300s.
An outstanding 13th century castle magnificently set in a great park with formal garden overlooking the sea. The castle was originally a square keep dating from 1275 by Robert, Earl of Sutherland, after whom it was named Dun Robin.
For centuries this has been the seat of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland. Paintings, fine furniture and a steam-powered fire engine are added attractions. The front of the castle is remarkable it had originally a square keep but has been added to between 1845-50, which has enhanced the building.
