URPoint Details
Set in picturesque farmland and although only a small village, is one in which some really unusual history is to be found.
Not only does it have a 12th century church with a Norman tower, it also has the oldest recorded gravestone in Scotland dating from 1623.
There is also Maggie Wall’s Monument, which commemorates the burning of a witch in 1657.
There are some interesting archaeological sites in the area as well.
Dunning has been in existence since Roman times, and this is confirmed by hill-forts and an iron-age fort near Dun-Knock.
There are many other historic tales to tell, best told by locals (only to happy to impart many stories of the area) at one of the quaint pubs.
